The Letter that started it all......

Tell me what you like about Pike County, Georgia! Let's tell everyone!

I live in the best part of the biggest state east of the Mississippi river in the most generous and best country in the world. I really like my home and my neighbors. This blog celebrates that fact!

Full Moon over Barn

I just left the Pike Historic Preservation Society annual sustainable dinner at the restored Whiskey Bonding Barn near Molena and noticed this beautiful full moon.  Many people from Atlanta will visit and comment on at least two things when they go out at night here in Pike.  One, it is quiet.  Two, it is DARK!  And, three (sorry, I remembered another one.), they never knew there were so many STARS out.  You know, our dark nights are a thing to be treasured- just ask any of the old-timers in Atlanta about it.  Once you lose that ability to see the stars at night, you will never get it back.

School is so close to opening....

I remember very clearly the excitement of the opening day of school.  The smell of pencils and books and new stuff.  Back in the day, we didn't have so many parents running around hovering over us.  It was cool to be able to figure out stuff on our own- where my locker is, where's homeroom, which lunch do we get, gym class, etc.? I imagine things haven't changed too much.  Exciting times!

Muscadines on the Vine

It won't be long now and these bronze muscadines will be plump and ready to fill your hand! I have black ones intertwined with these in an arbor out my side door.  When they get ripe and really sweet, the opossums and other critters drive our dogs crazy trying to get to them.  This means we are one step farther along on the RSBH Scale of Yearly time passage.  C'mon Fall!

You think you have attitude!

Here you are.  This says it all, thanks to Tomi Rich!

Be a Georgia Voter TODAY!

OK, my good friends, today is the day to vote.  No, no one will really know if you do not go to the polls, and you can complain about poor this and poor that at the office and at the ballpark.  But, really, it is true what my father said about voting, "If you don't vote, you haven't earned the right to complain."  So, today is the day you EARN the right to complain (conversely, today is the day you earn the right to say, "I voted for you!").  Do your duty and show up and do the deed- it took me 5 minutes- max!

Good Advice!

This advice will work for anyone!  (Even though there were other bumper stickers whose advice I didn't agree with, this one stood out!)

It's a little late, but it is still a good show!  We ended up right under the fireworks, since the wind was blowing our way.....the best seats in the house!  Click HERE to see the video!

Brittany Puppy Movie

Here's a short video of my last litter from my outstanding Brittany male, Ace.  This video is a few months old and I sold all the pups but "Hoss", whose name is now, Flyboy Ace's Delta Captain (Cap).  He's doing really well and should be a wonderful bird dog!  I guess I'm an old softy, because it saddened me to see each puppy go to their new home (even though I carefully checked each person).  BJ and I decided we like having the puppies but really hated to part with them.  Oh well, here's the video....
